Hopefully this is an easy question. I have a 1968 IH 544 and after it heats up, I am getting water/gas out of my engine. It is leaking out around the head gasket and the tube that is right next to the distributor. I believe this tube is connect to the valve cover (not sure). Anyways, I need to know what this tube is called to assist in trying to trouble shoot my problem.

Does anyone know what this tube is called. I have pictures of it in my manuals, unfortunately it is never detailed.

Little more info. For the a while now, when the engine was cold I would get some leaking from my headgasket and a fitting just above my carburetor in my intake. Couldn't tell if it was gas or water (didn't smell like gas, it is heavy mixed with some black stuff- assume this is carbon deposits). After the engine would warm up the leaking would stop (assume heads expanded a little when warn and sealed up the gaskets). I let the engine run the other day (20 min) at med speed and noticed a large volume of liquid (blackish watery stuff) coming out the tube right next to my distributor (believe is some sort of air pressuration thing for my valve cover, have not taken things apart to check). I shut the engine off immediately and am thinking I have some repairs to do. Anyone have something similar happen to them? If yes, were you able to fix it?

I have replaced headgaskets on automobile engines in the past and had the headgasket on my tractor replaced about 12 years ago (had a piston replaced). Tractor gets used very little, less then 10 hours per year. Thinking I got water coming in from the heads, but this is just a educated guess. Would love someone else thoughts before I tear this tractor apart.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Perhaps you are talking about the BREATHER?

Leaking head gasket is not good. You may need to have the head and/or block planed due to warping.
