I finally got a chance to take off the head on my 47 Cub I picked up this summer. I knew when I bought it it had little compression on a couple of cylinders. Now I know why - lots of carbon around the intake valves. Exhaust valve seats look good.I don't know yet if the intake seats are OK and just need cleaning or if it needs new seats. If I have to take it to a shop for a valve job I was wondering how much the block weighs. All the tractors in the past I've had valve jobs done had valves in the head - all I had to do was take the head to the shop.

NOT sure what your issue is 'cuz the whole shortblock of your Cub doesn't weight any more than a lot of medium-sized tractor cylinder heads, and you say you have hauled such items in for valve work before???
