Farmall C, H, M's Question

I seem to have heard a long time ago that the designations CHM were based on Cyrus H. McCormick's initials. True?
 
Hmmm, that doesn't seem likely because the Farmall C did not come out until 1948, while the H and the M came out in 1939. What would explain the gap in time before Cyrus was memorialized? Not to mention who A, B, BN, and AV were named for. Just sayin'
 
It was pointed out in the John Deere book that the factory wanted model designations that did not sound alike to minimize ordering errors when orders were called into the factory. Probably IH used a similar system. After all, "A", "B", "H", and "M" have their own distinct sounds. Minneapolis Moline went to the other end of the alphabet with "Z", "U", and "R".
 
Hmmm, it does make one wonder though as to where those Farmall letter designations came from. And for that matter where John Deere's D, L, A, B, G, H, M, etc. came from.
 

Ol' Cy named them like this:

"M" is for Mighty.

"H" is for Handy.

Then, years later after much arguing, Mrs. Cy finally got her way and named the
"C" for Cute.

At least, that's what I heard and the guy who told me that said he got that info from his grandfather's friend of a friend who was a neighbor to Cy and his wife.

A= apt to break
B= bomb
C= crush
G= garbage
H= hapless
M= manure
WD= will self destruct
