Tool Bar Help

Pardon me stepping over from the 8N forum, but I need some expert IH information. The tool bar I've inherited is apparently one from an old IH design. Local ag supply folks tell me nothing is available to make it into a hiller because the angles are 45 degrees off the modern designs. Seems like to me a longer top link would affect the geometry and square it up so that regular clamps and hiller shafts would fit.

The local ag guy says that won't work. Any ideas to help this become a hiller? Thanks from an old 8N guy!

Loks like a standard diamond tool bar,of which there are millions out there.Made by all mfgers.Clamps are every where. I have several....Your 'dealer' is an idiot.Just get some clamps, shanks,'hillers' and put it together...

That type of (diamond) tool bar is used industry wide to attatch all kinds of farm 'tools'.It measures 2 1/4" . Pictured is one set up as a corn planter.I have others set up as 'hillers'(water furrow makers)In this pic you can see the diamond clamps and shanks. The planter is mounted the same 'way'.Disregard the smaller 'square bar at the rear. It is(modifyed) from an old IH vegetable/beet/onion cultivator.

They are correct as gettin the clamps to hold the shanks are very hard to find. But you rotate the bar and you can get clamps for the shanks. The holders you need as it is now will run around 50 or so each. and if you rotate the bar those can be found new for around 15 each.

The ones shown are flat bar type(as are most).I also have some round shanks and a few clamps, but dont use em.

Just FYI, making the top link longer will cause the toolbar to raise unevenly. It will roll backwards as the lower link arms are raised, and may not even lift the tools out of the ground.

Never heard/saw a 2 1/4" 'square' bar.....Or a clamp for that. But if you are 'handy',make some clamps fron(1/2") flat stalk and some (5/8 or 3/4) bolts. That would be a simple thing to make.I've made clamps for the diamond bar before.

Where I grew up in SE Colorado the 2-1/4 diamond toolbar clamps and other accessories are very common - there are literally piles of them setting around in used equipment yards. Google "Muth Welding" in Rocky Ford, CO to get their number and give Richard a shout. He has any kind of shank and clamp you'd want for these toolbars (but of course shipping might be a challenge).

(I know I've mentioned Muth's on this site before. Just as an FYI, I'm not at all tied into his business in any way but always visit his place when I'm in that area. I've made numerous purchases from him over the years and always find him pleasant to deal with. My own diamond toolbars are set up with clamps and shanks purchased from here.)

Yes those clamps are hard to find but if you rotate the bar so it is flat you can get clamps how thick is the solid bar shown. Agri supply does have the holders for round standard shanks just rotate the bar so the flat is parallel to the ground. The price of the clamps from them is around 12 or so and take a standard cult shank. Your set-up looks ok just rotate the bar
