Michigan online auction results

I have attended Sheridan auctions since back when Bill Sheridan was still partners with his brother and they did the live auctions together...maybe 25 years? Always liked them and thought they were a good, clean auctioneer. Lately, though all they do is those on-line auctions and prices have been uniformly high on things. There are also some other irregularities in their auction format that trouble me. No bid history, items all end at the same time, poor contact/info. I am never completely comfortable that I am bidding against another bidder and not the owner or auction house. That being said, if I need something on their site...I buy it. Not a lot of choices left around this area anymore.

I was tipped off by Sheridan before this auction ever hit the webpage. I had a strong interest in one of the 600-650 series tractors but my budget is all allocated to working equipment this year and not collector tractors. The only one I bid on was the SMTA. Figured I would use it to replace my narrow front SMTA in the hayfield and move the NF out to the main farm and pull the sprayer with it. I like the old open station tractors and use them as much as possible. Ended up not getting the SMTA. Price was good, but not good enough.

Hey Dave, I know what you mean by not knowing who you are bidding against. I know my dad was bidding on a Ford tractor on an online auction, was supposed to have no reserve, and he bid until it got out of his price range then it was sold. Even went down to see it before he bid, they told him they were reducing their inventory. He was bidding against 2 other people until the other dropped out. Didnt get it, figured oh well, then happened to drive by where it was at about a month later and was still on the lot of the place selling it, still for sale. Sent his buddy in to ask about it, and they told him they had just gotten it in. Likely story.... Anyway, Dad was bidding on the W400 or 450 with no engine or sheetmetal for parts. That one had a complete power steering set up on it. He was hoping to get it because he has a W400 diesel with a broken tooth on a steering gear. Someone else's autobid outbid him at the last second, lol. Ross

Oliverdiesellover, Not quite sure how that works, bid until the end, kept getting outbid.

Sheridan has different rules than Albrecht, another on line auction house in the thumb. Last three minutes for Albrecht if I remember correctly but Sheridan may be longer. I know when I bought the CIH combine at one of the last consignment sales I sat there a healthy long time watching to see if I was outbid. I would have hated to see my blood pressure. Either way, if you put in a bid at the last minute it should extend the auction. I am watching Sheridan because I believe I saw the same combine sell twice this year. May be wrong but...

Other thing I hate about Sheridan is the mandatory bid increments and 10% commission compared to Albrecht at 6% and smaller increments.

I think charging the buyer the extra percentage is crazy, they already are getting a percentage from the seller, then to charge the person buying from them more, thats crazy. Ross
