oily distributor

My niece was given a W 4 by her grandpa and asked if I would get it going. The tractor is in great shape but the distributor has alot of oil in it fouling everything in it including the points. Looking at a breakdown of the dist. it shows a seal. Is it really a seal or a O ring. Can someone enlighten me on this and the steps to correct it? Is it a dealer only part or can you get them at a autoparts store? How is the gear on the end of the shaft held on? Thanks in advance...Fred

Its a o ring and the pin is a drive out after removing a swelled end. Have used a rod the right size cut to length for a replacement pin. Shaft removal is needed to replace, so the point plate and a few other parts are removed to slide it out.
But that o ring is not made to stop a bunch of oil. If it has a hydraulic pump in front of the distributor its probably the problem. If no hydraulic pump there was a serial number break on the ignition drive housing. After break a seal was used on the drive shaft and before that no seal. Even the ones without the seal usually didn't give a problem. Mite check to see if someone used oil instead of grease in the distributor gear housing.
