1951 cub quits when hot

My 51 farmall cub wont start when then engine is hot. if you dont turn it off, it will usually stay running, but its often hard to start when its hot.
The other day it stranded me in the field, so I got a tow, and poped the clutch, and it started, but it would stall 30 seconds later. poped the clutch again, and it ran back to the shed, till I put in in reverse, then It stalled.

When the engine quits when its hot pull a plug wire and see if there's fire to your plugs. Your
coil or condenser may be getting weak. Hal

(quoted from post at 22:40:33 09/04/14) Check and see if the coil wires aren't turned around,or possibly a bad condenser !

How do you check to see if its charging the battery? should I see a positive amperage at the battery terminals with a multi meter?
It has a belt driven generator above the motor

The charging system has nothing to do with it running or not. Matter of fact you can run a engine with out any type of charging system on it as long as the battery has a good charge.
That said when it stall check your spark at all 4 plug wires. It needs to be a good blue/white nd jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. If spark is good next pull the carb drain plug and make sure you get a good steady flow of gas out of the carb.
Also does choking it help or hurt it

It has good spark on all 4 wires, it shocked the hell outta me a few times. lol

Now im thinking its a cooling problem:
I added antifreeze to it, and as soon as I got it started, antifreeze started pouring out the overflow drain, that comes off the top.
I only idled the tractor for 5 mins, and the radiator was hot. even the radiator cap was almost too hot to touch.

It seems this tractor has no thermostat, there is a big hose going from the radiator to the engine head. It seems like the engine is not sucking in the coolant?

Your radiator tubes may be plugged preventing circulation. Touch the bottom hose lightly to see if its hot. Hal

The only problem is that the radiator drain plug is rusted away to where u cant move it. even with vice grips.

So I took half the tractor apart, just to get the hood off. then I took the coolant input pipe off the top of the head, breaking 2 bolts in the process.
There is no thermostat there.
And there was coolant down in the bottom tube as well. nothing seems clogged up.

You more than likely have a problem with the fuel system. You also now have problems that have nothing to do with your engine dieing. The Cub doesn't have a waterpump, so its not going to suck the coolant down, and you have/had overfilled the system, that's why it ran out the overflow.

Correct. It is a thermosyphon cooling system and has no thermostat. It also uses a no pressure cap on the radiator. Only fill it to where the tubes are covered, any excess is pushed out the overflow.

I just put the tractor back together today, I just have to wait 24 hours for the create a gasket to dry to add coolant.
It almost has to be a spark issue, cuz if it starts cold, the carb should be fine. nothing changes down there when it gets hot. next time it dies hot, ill check for spark.

I also changed the plugs, they dont make champion 15a's anymore, so I got 21d's which is what was in there, but 15a is whats in the manual. the problem with owning a 1951 tractor.

3 out of 4 plugs were rust brown on the tip, the other one was black
