Challenge with Clutch on Super A

Situation is as follows, Super A has been sitting
under on open shelter for 20 plus years. Got the
engine running pretty good. Problem is the clutch
is stuck. The grandson really wants to keep the
tractor as original as he can. He is reluctant for
me to break the tractor apart and change the
clutch. I have pulled tractors before, started
them in gear and some let go and some did not. I
have had the clutch tied down for a few days now
but still has not come loose. Anybody got any
tricks up their sleeves.

Have you tried driving it around with the pedal held down?

Other than that, all you can do is split it and see what's wrong.

if i remember my b has an inspection cover under the bell housing. try taking the cover off and hosing down the clutch with brake cleaner, tie the clutch pedal down. you may be able to sneek a long screwdiver up there and tap on the disk a little to see if it pops loose.

Get the tractor out into an open area. Put the tranny into 4th gear, and while holding the clutch pedal down, start the engine. Naturally the tractor will start moving. Keep holding the clutch pedal down, and start riding the brakes. If that doesn't shake it loose, then it is time to split the tractor. The clutch disc is rusted to the flywheel. All you need to do is break the rust loose.

Pull the starter off and then with the pedal still blocked down spray the whole clutch with brake cleaner spray turn the engine over a little at a time while doing that. You can also some times reach into the starter hole and use a screw drive to pry the disk free for the flywheel

Beenmy experience if it has sat for that long the disc is stuck real hard to the flywheel and the tractor needs to be split when you get the pressure plate and clutch disc off without doubt the flywheel will need to be resurfaced so just split it and go from there as it will not be right until the flywheely is resurfaced.

Splitting the tractor to get to the clutch isn't going to change the tractor from original. Your pressure plate and clutch disc may need to be rebuilt. It's easy to split those tractors I split a Farmall A in 1975 in my back yard using a chain hoist. I had the clutch disc relined at a brake shop. There are dowels on each side of the housing making alignment easier, but you probably need to do some prying to separate them. I rented a hydraulic engine hoist when reinstalling the engine. It was on wheels. It came on a pallet disassembled, but they showed me how to assemble it. Hal
