WD-9 Thermostat

Is anyone aware of a warmer thermostat for a WD-9? I have a black oily substance coming from the exhaust and I believe it is because the engine is not running warm enough. The thermostat was replaced when it was restored a few years ago and it never enters the "Run" range in the gauge (see attached picture). I do not know exactly what temperature the current thermostat is, but I believe it is 160 degrees.

I also need the exhaust pipe (P/N 6995DB) that muffler clamps onto to seal up the exhaust but have had no luck locating one. I guess that I will have to have the existing one turned down.

Yeah, it is just a parade tractor so the engine is never loaded.

The warmer thermostat was one thought to resolve the issue (or at least improve it).

you could try covering some of the radiator to cut the airflow thru the radiator. that would get your operating temp up. or if you could find distillate/kerosene shutters you could control the temperature that way.

The others are correct, Wet Stacking is not going to go away, and gets spots on cloths and finishes.
My suggestions include a muffler adapted to a much tighter fit to the stack, Putting a liner inside the bottom of the muffler to "funnel" the goo back into the exhaust pipe. Moving the clamp farther up the pipe to prevent dripping on the hood.
Running it hard to assist burning off the deposits. Jim

(quoted from post at 22:31:04 09/03/14) I would say you have other issues.

I agree, something seems wrong. I have 2 running WD-9's and a Super WD-9 that have been on light duties in their retirement for many years--none of them have that problem. The temperature gauge doesn't even move unless they are worked. The fact that your gauge moves that far as a parade tractor puzzles me. Would incorrect injection pump timing do that? Anyone?

they are not a jimmy and do not slobber. you have other issues. better check your injectors. I have many many of these tractors and never even seen one do that. you are over fueling.
