I'm gonna need a clutch soon

Good evening. This topic has probably come up a 100 times already, but........
The clutch in my M is about to give out. I pretty much use it as a playtoy and puller. IIRC a 706 clutch should be a good candidate for more clamping force. I'm not concerned with more pedal pressure etc. Motor is turbo'd and does produce a lot more power.

IIRC only late M's had 12 inch clutch. Others will know but I think it is possible to do a flywheel swap to go from 11 to 12 inch clutch. Depending on how serious you are there are shops that build clutches for 656-686 that are 11 inch and can take lots of hp. This advice worth what you paid for it.

What's amazing to me is the motor is turbo'd and not blown yet.
But anyways the best advise I could give is maybe a super M clutch. That should be bigger thus more holding power.

Do tell on your motor mods.

I put a 12" flywheel from a 450 on mine and a button clutch for a 786. Drilled out the rivets in the pressure plate and removed the PTO drive plate/spline coupler. Bolt together, no mods and works good with mild peddle effort.

First assess what HP rating you have now & then match the clutch to the HP application. Issue is, too high clamping force
(button clutch) is really hard on tranny gears & final drives.
As stated above you will need to know what diameter clutch you have now & go from there. Enough $$ and anything is possible. Any reliable place that relines or sells heavy duty clutches can help you.

If the motor does ever have kittens, at least you guys will get to see pics of me building a new one. Maybe I'll put a 236 perkins or a 3.8L Leyland motor in it.
