Should I cut down fast hitch prongs???

I need a fast hitch drawbar for my Super C and I found one about 15 min from home but its for a 300. The seller also has a 3 point adapter which I am also looking for. I haven't cut anything yet, but I almost feel guilty just thinking about it haha.

Am I making a big deal about this? Buy it and cut em to fit my Super C? Or leave them to be used for someone with a large pronged tractors?? I know its done all the time but just don't want to "wreck" original IH parts.

P.S. will the 300 draw bar work with the Super C swinging draw bar attachment??

Well, the choice is of course yours. There
seem to be more of the big prong 2-point stuff
than the small. So don't feel real bad I guess.

But gosh. You gotta hate cutting up that rare 2
point equipment to make too large of an
attachment fit a smaller tractor.

My dad cut down a 7' 2 point blade to fit his
Super C. He gave me the blade now as he
no longer uses it. Someday when I get
around to it, I will weld it back up to work on
the larger prong tractors. So I wish he had
never done that. But oh well.

It takes quite a bit of grinding to make them
work. Not just the notch dimensions, but the
sides need shaved down a bit too to get it in
smooth without binding.

The only difference in dimensions between the "small prong" and the "large prong" is the height. Large prongs are exactly 1/2" taller. That's it. Everything else is the same.

How do you propose to cut down the prongs? Really it should be done on a vertical milling machine.

I am in the opposite place...everything I find is for the small tractors and I want the large. I agree though and would never cut them. Buy the big ones and resell if you can make money. Find the small ones and buy those.

I have cut down a FH to three point and cut the points on a disc to fit my Super C. The adapter and the disc just do not lift as high as I would like. I trimmed mine with the touch, and cleaned the cut with a seven inch grinder. Before someone say it wont work, the SC pulls the disc from the 300 just fine. There are better point sets out there but the top link mount is the big thing.

Nobody said it won't work. The issue is in permanently modifying a somewhat rare, definitely irreplaceable, piece of farm equipment.

Going from small to large is easy. All you need is a 1/2" shim under each prong, and IH even made shims for this. Reproduction shims are out there too, but it's really something you could build in your own shop with a chunk of 1/2"x1" flat bar, a drill, and two roll pins.

Trim it and move on. I"ve cut a fair number of them down to fit my super c. If it ever needs to be used with the bigger fast hitch its easy enough to slide a piece of steel into it. As far as them being "rare", they were made to be used, and modifying it so it can be used is infinitely better than letting it sit there and rust until a scrapper gets a hold of it.

It's not like you are throwing it away, scrapping it or making something totally different with it. It can be returned to large point with a few shims or some welding. Use what you have if it will work.
