Sickle bar mower

i have a jd number 5 on one of my m tractors. there are different front brackets for the number 5 so you can bolt the front of the mower directly to the u drawbar on the m.

Going on the basis of pictures I find online, if your mower has the quick attach arms you can fabricate a bracket using round and flat stock and bolt it to your horseshoe drawbar. I did this with a #5 that had a similar hookup. This extends the mower back a little further and may require you to have PTO shaft made that is a little longer than stock. It also adds extra stress to the drawbar so take a pass on the "one brake" fast turns or you will blow out a draw bar strut...don't ask. Another option, as it appears to be a semi mount from the picture is to bolt the mower onto the draw bar. Based on what I know of JD mowers, and I used them a lot of years, if you scare up a manual it will have diagrams of mounting to many different brands of tractors. HTH

can you guys post a picture of your set ups the next time you mount the mower? Thanks Jeff

Below is a link to the parts catalog.

Starting on about Page 36 there's drawings of quite a variety of tractor attaching parts that were made available for various makes/models of tractors.

I would love to, but I sold the JD mowers last year to a fella who was starting out in hay...just like I did back when...on the cheap and only to feed his kids 4H/Fair livestock. Tried to sell him my bracket for the Farmall but he took a pass on it. I moved to IH mowers and eventually to a mower conditioner. Really cuts down my field time for hay. Now I have more time to speculate on other crops...corn this year.
