I suspect the carb float not fully shutting down. sometimes when I shut it down the carb will drip some.

White smoke is quite often an indication of coolant in the combustion chamber. Head gasket leak, or cracks in the castings. Running it with coolsnt in the oil, even a modest amount, will ruin the bearings. Pull the plugs and let it sit over night. With the plugs out and ignition off, crank the engine watching to see if coolant comes out of a plug hole. JIM

White smoke usually means coolant in the cylinders.
Bluish smoke means oil is being burnt.
Black smoke means fuel issues...usually too rich.

The fact that you are seeing fuel drip can mean that the float is not closing the valve or that it is closing it too late but I don"t think it means white smoke.
