Still struggling with build year

My A has a replaced engine with no number in its plate. Part 8106DB (axle housing) has a strange casting code: *UU MU RR* just above the number. The serial # says 256461,and 1540 rpm, saying 1948, but that is a Super A number and tractor has no hydraulic pump. I have found no other casting codes. Did all Super As have hydraulics?

(quoted from post at 01:07:58 08/06/14) My A has a replaced engine with no number in its plate.

All Super A tractors (built 1947-1954) had hydraulics. Farmall A tractors DID NOT have hydraulics (built 1939-1947). HOWEVER, Some of the VERY LATE Farmall "A" tractors in 1947 had a place for the hydraulic pump on the engine.

The casting code for the rear end you supplied .....not sure about that.

If you got the serial number off the rear of the tractor under the seat then it is possible it has been changed out at some time with a Super A rear end. What is the bolt pattern spacing on the rear final drives? That will tell if from an "A" or not. Also check cast codes on transmission case (probable cause for replacing rear end).

If you are talking about your engine block being blank on the flat spot near #1 spark plug (no serial number), then that is very possible the engine is from a Power Unit.

Post several good pictures of your tractor and what you have and we can help you better!

If there isnt any # on the flat spot under #1 plug that means it is a replacement block and left blank. It should have been stamped with the # of the block it replaced. Power units had #s on them. If there isnt a plate where the hy pump goes it is an earlier block made before the hole was added for the pump. There should be a casting code on the block and a part#.
