M brake band replacement

Hi. I need to replace my brakes-rolling forward into logs simply isn"t cutting it anymore.

I have to say the primary thing I am curious about is the pins which hold the ends of the band in place. How do you remove/reinstall those?

I am sort of visual when it comes to figuring things out: Does anyone know of any videos or sequence of photos or diagrams for brake band replacment on my M?

Pins are a slip fit. Draw an image of how the bands are located in the drum cover; it is easy to get them mixed up. Just do one side at a time; parts are not interchangeable.
Here is a summary I wrote a few years ago.
Band brake tips-H & M:
Remove the pins holding the brake adjuster to the pedal & actuating lever. Loosen & lube them. This is a good time to clean & loosen the threaded adjuster.
Remove the cap screws holding the brake cover; wiggle it & they should come off.
Note or draw a diagram of how the brake band is attached to the cam. Turn the cover over, shake, tap or whatever to get the 2 pins out. If you remove the outer lever & half-moon key the whole thing comes out.
Replace the band & be sure the brake cam pivot shaft works freely in the cover. Oil or grease the pivot the area well and let the excess drip off before installing the new bands.
Place a small amount of grease in the hole where the brake pivot goes into the transmission housing. After installing the bands & getting the pedal free-play to about 1", apply the brakes firmly, lock them in place and adjust the set-screw on the bottom side of the cover. (helps to loosen any adjustable parts BEFORE re-assembly) Loosen the set screw jam nut, turn the set-screw in until it touches the brake band, back out 1/2 turn & lock the jam nut. This helps prevent the brake band from dragging, premature wear, and overheating.
 

I made a slide hammer with vise grips to pull them out on my C and H. Those things can be difficult at best to remove, otherwise. I welded a threaded rod to the adjuster on the end of the vise grip. Then I welded a bunch of huge washers together for the sliding weight. Finally I just put a bolt on the end of the rod as the impact spot. Worked great.
