574 hydraulic oil level

574 hydraulic oil level
I have just changed the hydraulic filter on my 574 and there is no oil flowing into the filter housing.

I am assuming that the filter flows from outside to in and that the filter is on the suction side of the pump not the pressure side.

The oil level is just above the full mark on the dipstick

On the filter mounting on the MCV there are 2 holes, one in the centre and one at the top that would be outside the filter element, when I checked the oil level against these holes the oil is just about to the bottom of the centre hole so no oil could (would) freely flow into the filter housing.

If my assumption of the outside to in flow is correct then the pump would need to suck the air out of the filter housing until oil was pulled in through the top (outside the filter) hole. Is this what is supposed to happen? Or should the oil level be above the top hole in the MCV to allow a flow into the filter housing?

Otherwise how does the filter and its cover get filled with oil after a filter change?

Is the oil level at approximately to the centre of the MCV at the correct level?
Or could the wrong dip stick be on the tractor?

Hi Peter, check transmission level with tractor on the level, start engine and let in run for 10 minutes and then check level on transmission dipstick. Then over fill by at least 5 gallons.

You may have to loosen the nut on the power steering line on bottom of left of MCV and start engine and pump should prime.
