What would you do ?

I'm helping a friend with a engine o/h on his Farmall 400 gas engine. Had the head checked out and planed. I noticed two cracks on the bottom side of head each about one inch long. Maybe a little longer. Anyway, the shop said nothing to worry about. It's not in the combustion area but above and center. I'm a little skeptical of these. Would you run it or not ? He also said that these heads crack all the time with nothing to worry about. This guy has been doing engine work for A LOT of years. Over thirty years for sure. Engine work is all this guy does for a living. Here's some photos.

I would coat both sides of the new gasket with Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket and torque that head right down. But, I would do that with any head. Had a 113 with the block having a similar crack between two water passages about four years ago, been running hard ever since.

I'd run it as long as they don't have anything to do with combustion chamber, or water port to oil, intake, or exhaust port. For instance, a crack at the water port but don't go all the way through to any other port. Kinda don't go anywhere, just dead ends.

get a different head dont put any money in a cracked head it will give you trouble in the long run a good used head shouldnt be hard to find
