560 pto vent

My 1958 560 is leaking Hy-tran through the
Independent PTO vent. I think the seal between the
PTO and rear end needs replacing. Would it hurt the
tractor to put a plug in that vent and run it with
out using the PTO? Then when there's a break in the
field work, I'll replace the seal.

Just drain the PTO back down to the proper level. Without the vent it may cause oil to be pushed out past the output shaft seal.

Thanks Owen, I'll give that a try. Seems like that would let me know how bad the seal is between the pto and rear end based on how soon the vent pushes out more fluid.
