Is there alot of differense betwene the 756 and the 766 gas tractors? I have a 730 Case gas on a 7ft snowblower. After last winter in Minnesota, the Case being under powered and only having a high and low I want some thing different. I ran a ad in the Red Power Mag last issue for a 766 gas and got some neat phone calls. The 766s that I called on have not worked out. One did not have a drawbar, one no 3 point or fast hitch, one only one hydrolics. I am loking at a 766 in Wisconsin next week. I had a nice old (75)gentleman from New York call me about his 756, he had in his IH collection of 45 tractors plus. He bought it from somebody he knew who had bought this tractor new. It has 2200 hrs on it and a Hiniker cab also. He said the cab is very good and this tractor has been repainted. He said tires and tractor looks good. I asked for pictures. I really like the 766 tractors. The looks, headlights up front, and they more weight to them. This gentleman wants $6.000 for this tractor. Hauling to Minnesota $1500. I think I can get a 766 for around $6800 - $7000 and used cab for $500. The 766 have about 6000 - 7000 hours on them that I have looked at. This tractor I buy will be at a farm I do not live at, to blow snow and to load round bales to a trailer that are in storge there. A loader is next to get. What do I do 766 or 756 tractor? Will I be able to get parts for 756 tractor in 10 or 15 years. Will it be the same for the 766 on parts? The 766 is a heaver tractor for moving bales. I bought a 1586 three years ago and it has worked out good for me. Thank you for your imput on what I should buy.

Weight difference between the 756 and 766 should be negligible.

Virtually no differences internally driveline wise.

756 Diesel has a D-310 German Diesel where the 766 has a D-360 IH engine. Both are good engines. Gas versions have the C-291.

The 756 would have a lower hood profile. Lights could be added to the front easy enough if that's important.

As jim said on the trwo tractors...The german 310 is an awsome long lifed engine. Mine has over 11,000 hard working hrs.Parts will be no problem,as the 706;756;766 and others share a LOT of the same parts. All I can say is you will LOVE the 756.The 756 has my vote.

The gas IH engine is the C291, old design IH truck engine that was tough but outdated, this was used in various sizes by cubic inch, 221/263/282/291/301, with & without replaceable sleeves, believe IH MT (trucks) first built in late 40s, its biggest complaint was it was a gas hog in the bigger cubes. 756 had older front radiator & bolster/steering design, from clutch back 56/66 same stuff.

MNHighwired,, Either Tractor is a good choice.
#1 are you wanting a Large frame or Small frame tractor???
#2 a tandem axle W/ single 7500 lb axles as opposed to a tandem axle W/ Duals 10000 lb axles to haul it!
#3 a 756 is a Small frame tractor, the 766 is a Large frame tractor or In simpler terms... a 80 hp tractor in a 966/1066... 95 to 135 hp body and wt.
To me this is the key to you Question
Will you be hauling it around, have a trailer or need to get a trailer.......
the 756 will haul on a tandem, singles trailer the 766 will haul only if not weighted!
But you said you want to put a Loader on it so weights are a Must!
A 766 will weigh in at near 12000ls if weighted right.
A 2350 IH Loader will bolt On no mods needed, It is built for these tractors!
Either way You cant go wrong Part is No Problem !
Hope this helps.

The 756 frame is the same as the 766. The 766 looks larger due to the same radiator housing and sheet metal used on the higher horsepower tractors.

Jim, Thanks Point noted! Having both a 966 and a 706 there appears to be considerable difference in the frames.

When tested at Nebraska, there was about 1500 lbs.
difference in weight. The 766 is the same tractor as
the 966 with the exception of the engine.

Both are considered "large frame" tractors, if that is even a term.

HOWEVER, the distance between the outside of the frame rails on the 766 is 2" wider than the 756. The extra width is necessary for the 400-series engines in the 966-1066-1466-1566.

This only comes into play when mounting a loader. The IH mount-o-matic loaders were designed to bolt directly to the 66 series frame, and need 1" spacers on each side of the 56 series.
