alternative head crack repair (pic)

Head shop says don't weld it, plug it. He magnifluxed it, drilled at the end of the crack and put in a tapered plug before milling. I've been using him for years with great results.

Ive seen pins work Ive also seen them fail. Last one I seen fail hole was drilled and tapped to deep along inside of combustion chamber. Chamber wall failed where it was drilled but pin didn't fill void.

But that looks like a good repair for the spot of the crack.

There's some kind of threaded plugs, I forget the name, where the threads are such that as the plug is tightened in it pulls everything together. That may be what your guy is using. If it works, it works!

That looks like the one I was thinking of. I've had ok results welding manifolds and better luck with brazing. Welded an external crack on a small block once but it didn't stay; seeps to this day. I weld but I'm not "A Welder".
