Need to install the rest of the fuel system, replacement radiator and shutters, drawbar with hill side hitch, and wiring harness and starter. This thing has been a nightmare since I started trying to find parts 2 years ago. Jim.

Keep at it and good luck. If that's a original type beside the seat battery box you have one item not easy to find.

Yes it is an original sidemount box and lid... the box needed a little work but its good now just have to weld the 2 tabs back onto the bottom. A friend of mine is looking into making a few boxes, lids and mounting brackets.

Fenders would be nice with the steel, but I don't think they go together. Steel seems rather "no frills" to me and fenders on a farmall were viewed as extravagant when I was young.

Good looking MD, I might add depending how correct you want it the rear steel wheels would not be correct for a 41 it would need the rear steel wheels with clamps close to like a f12 used
View in m parts book the style on your md wasn't used till serial number 56754 and up.
Tom

Yeah I know the wheels aren't correct... I got a good deal on the fronts and rears last fall so I picked the up. I have been keeping an eye out for the early rears. I personally don't think fenders would look right with steel, but my dad is scared to death of those wheels worried I might get caught in them I guess he wants the fenders lol. The serial numder is 29608 makes is a mid/late march tractor.

Dang that's a cool project! Even have the roller on the drawbar. Is the steel original to the tractor?

At one local show someone had brought an M on steel with fenders. Very original looking and not a speck of paint on it. I thought the fenders looked good on it.

Functionally I would rather have fenders on a steel wheel tractor.

Yes on fenders. Particularly with steel rotating right beside you, with you sitting so far above the wheels. . It is a safety item, as you lurch side to side, it is something to grab onto. And PARTICULARLY if somebody else will ever drive, like youngster.

Steel wheels aren't very forgiving, I would go with the fenders. Any hard object and they will almost throw you out of the seat.
I was using a 36 F20 during plow day and " found" a submerged rock with the furrow wheel, woke me right up !! I didn't have fenders, if that rock had been any bigger, I am afraid it would have been a very bad day.
When loading & unloading, sections of used conveyor belt come in very handy. Using a winch is the calmest way, that usually takes a helper.

Looking good Jim. I would go with fenders. Up here in Wisconsin EVERYTHING has fenders. I have a war time H that came on steel and it has fenders. They are the same color rust as the rest of the tractor. My FIL doesn't know if it came new with them, but he said they have been on there as long as he can remember.

Yes I remember a guy telling us about his father. I think he was driving a Ferguson Type A with no fenders and steel wheels. It was a cold winter's day and he was wearing a big thick coat. I don't know exactly how it happened but apparently one of the spade lugs grabbed his coat pocket and pulled him under the wheel. The poor guy died.
