our 986 has sat for about 6 months started it this morning light on dash for low transmission pressure was on has no brakes or steering the pto does work are there any common problems that will cause this the fluid level was full

The mcv lost its prime it's on left side of ta housing there is a plug on back side towards rear end of tractor is close to bottom of mcv housing takes a 5/8 wrench take out start tractor oil should spray out replace plug should be good to go

If you plan on pulling the plug..........get a fitting that will allow you to hook a hose on to it and run it back to the oil fill tube.

When that pump primes you won't believe how fast it pumps oil out that hole.

This saves a big mess on the floor.

added an extra 5 gallons of fluid and bled air like said now steering and brakes are working again. is it the seal for the pickup tube behind the filter that causes it get air in pump ?

Possibly. There is also an O-ring between the rear frame and the center section that can allow air into the system.
