I recently got a real nice 1456 unknown history tach works at about 8000 hours.Tractor runs great no blowby timing is correct got plenty of power but starts slow.Once its been started it will start. It has near new batteries but it takes a small shot of starting fluid even at 75Deg.I am thinking pump as it doesn't smoke when trying to start.Could it be injectors or maybe it is tired .Any suggestions? Thanks!

I'd be looking at your valves they are probably recessed out of spec.had the something on a 806 could not believe the difference it made after a proper valve
job.

Check the sealing rings on the steel lines that connect the fuel filters and the injection pump inlet.

Could be suffering from air ingress when it sits.

Timing is extra critical on those four plunger Roosa Master pumps. Also fuel pressure of primary pump which is checked easily with a gauge. Those vane pumps blades wear badly and then you have little pressure at cranking speed and low pressure always. If it will idle down really slow when operating the lever on pump by hand when completely warmed up it is no at all likely to be the main pumping plungers or rotor. Forget about injection nozzles if it runs good. Like other poster said, valve recession is super critical and could be low from previous valve jobs. Problem with having pump tested is almost all shops will refuse to put on test stand before taking pump apart so you NEVER find out fuel delivery before any repairs are made. They don't want to contaminate their equipment.
