Converting Super A-V to Super A

Our Super A-V would perform better as an A, lower ground speed for cultivating, and more readily available tires (9.5-36's are expensive, and can't find a used one).

I've got an old A here and am thinking that swapping parts out may be feasible.

Steering gear is different, may swap just the front wheels, leaving the A-V configuration on....making the front 3" higher.

The front cultivator bars can swap over to keep the tools high enough, and the rear wheels are just a swap.

Anything else that I can't see?

Right in the middle of weed/cultivating season, blew a tire and now we're down. Had considered this conversion earlier, now it's urgent if possible.

seems like alot of work just for a tire.
AV is worth more than an A. Get the tire and keep going. Sell the AV down the road and buy an SA. if that what you want.

Time, my dear boy, time.

Getting a new tire next week puts me way behind on cultivation, need it now. Wanted to do it anyway.

Why not you just change tires and centers and rims you can always go back to the AV tires. Will the cult lift high enough with the smaller A tires you should be able to make the adjustments i would think. Nice thing about the AV is to do crops when they get taller.

unless yours is a family tractor and has sentimental value it might be easier to work out a trade with somebody who has a A and would like the A-V

That's my thinking.

The front ends are very different, but I thought I could put the A wheels on the A-V spindles. Still 3" higher than an A setup, but usable. I was told by a dealer that the bearing/spindle setup is different and incompatible.

Also the cultivating bars are different, but look like they could be swapped.

I'd not bother at all, but we do need a tractor running right now.

So your A isn't running? Why can't you cultivate with the A until you get the new tire?

I would make do for now until you get the new tire for the A-V. Then I would sell the A-V and get a SA if you don't like the A-V. I know I would sure like to have an A-V.

You've got nothing to lose but time at this point.

It'll take you a couple hours to swap things over, and a couple to swap back if it doesn't work out. What else do you have to do in the week you'll be waiting on a tire?

If I am understanding correctly you are thinking of putting finals from a standard A on a Super A. Won't that require a mixing of implements due to the different implement mount holes on the A finals? Are the bolt holes the same where they bolt to the transmission?

Dont need to change finals why not just change the centers and rims or dont the centers fit the AV axles is the bolt pattern different.

Swap front castings (including front axle and steering, maybe even radiators) and rear wheels between the A and the Super AV.
You'll then basically have an AV and a Super A, both useable. Do not know about the mid mount cultivator lift arms though.
If you only swap front and rear wheels you end up with two mutts.

I'd sure be interested in a trade. We have several tractors with the cultivators ready to work.

Well the client is interested in getting a 140 vs
this A-V.

This A-V will come with new tires....

Does my location in Lincoln County, Maine make it feasible? I'll
keep your email on file for that possible trade.
