TA Adjustment Farmall 350 - Video

What do you think of this video about adjusting the TA on a Farmall?

My owners manual (300 Farmall) says the clutch should have 1.5" (or is it 1.25") of play on the clutch and the TA handle should have 3/16" play.

I'm pretty sure I know what video that is, but I can't remember if he showed the adjustment by feel or by exact measurements.

You can't go 100% by exact measurements, due to wear and slop in the linkages and pivots over time.

How much different?

I have never had a manual for my 350 - I used the manual for a 300 that my dad had left behind.

He had actually filled out and signed the "checklist" when he took delivery of his brand new 300 tractor in 1955.

F-350 have some different linkage pieces. No clutch pedal stop bolt, different length on the t/a clutch operating shaft arm and main clutch rod to clutch pedal distance from pivot.
Hope you can zoom in and read the pictures. First is a F-300 and other two are for a F-350.

(quoted from post at 07:14:09 06/17/14) What do you think of this video about adjusting the TA on a Farmall?

My owners manual (300 Farmall) says the clutch should have 1.5" (or is it 1.25") of play on the clutch and the TA handle should have 3/16" play.

The 3/16" is measured at the slotted turnbuckle for the TA rod and is where I start. This might need fudged a bit for wear to allow the TA clutch to fully release.

The last adjustment should be made with the clutch rod and spring connected, TA lever forward.
Adjust the link so the pin can just slide in.

Test linkage operation by pulling up on an incline and when the clutch pedal is depressed fully the tractor should roll backward down the incline when the TA clutch releases.

I adjusted it in a "mix" from the video and the 300 manual. I noticed there wasn't a clutch stop to adjust. The biggest difference appears to be the measurement of slack on the clutch peddle - Mine started at 3.5 inches and I adjusted it to 1.5" (or was it 1.25"?), the video showed it at .75"(?) if I recall correctly. The 3/16" "slack" on the TA handle is what I used.

The clutch was becoming an issue as it would make it extremely difficult to take out of gear at times and the TA would engage then slip back into high side after a few seconds - but if you held it back beyond the "lock" position it would stay in low side. I very seldom use the TA - but needed it for the heavy windrows I was baling.

This tractor only has about 2400 hours on it and it wouldn't surprise me if this was the first adjustment. Luckily for me the seeping hydraulic Christmas tree for the loader keeps everything nicely lubed and nothing was frozen in place.
