Couldn't start my H tonight

I take a lot of pride in having my old tractors in good mechanical shape so when I have to do more than fill the gas tank I'm ticked off. Went to move the H tonight and wouldn't start. It started fine last week.Suspected electrical. Filed points as they hadn't been done in a long time, still no start. Finally pulled a plug and verified no spark. Went back with a test meter - had 12 volts across switch but no voltage to the distributor.Problem lies in between somewhere. Tractor is a good hike back to garage each time I need a tool so decided to leave it until morning. I'll tow it up to the garage and pull of the hood. Hopefully all it is a bad end on a wire.Good thing I've got 6 more of the old tractors - all ran earlier today.

it seems you know a lot about farmalls. I have a question for you. Is there a correct way to set the governor on a H or a measurement on the threads inside the governor I could set it to with out hurting the engine?

Do you have a broken/burned out resistor between the switch & coil? Maybe the old ceramic style used by Chrysler? Likely problem since you have 12 volts and only want 6 volts at the points.

Lot of guys on here know more than I do as I have learned the hard way over the years. For me the best way to set governors is using a tachometer. If you have a manual it will give high and low RPM's and its just a matter of adjusting the screws to get what you want. Probably high end is most important so the engine doesn't run faster than its build for. Worst that can happen on low end is your engine doesn't run fast enough to stay running.
