H pto stopped working

Have a gentleman near me that has an H. He said the pto wont engage and / or stay engaged. Were there any common problems with them? Where would be the best place to start? Thank you.

First thing to know is what PTO it has. The early "flat back" ptos are prone to problems, that is why they were replaced in 1940. If your neighbor has the new type PTO they are easy to replace without opening up the top cover, if it is the old PTO the countershaft may also need to be replaced with the new splined type in order to put a new type PTO on the tractor.

Thank you for your reply. Do you happen to have a picture of the different ptos? Im not sure what year tractor it is and he is a little ways from me.
