Hour meter hook-up on magneto M

All I can think of is hooking hour meter to Alt. input on Ampmeter. There is an extra wire in harness for 2 wire Alt. to light box that it could be hooked to direct. M has the on/off ground switch for starting motor.

My brother hooked up an hour meter on his 1943 magneto-equipped M. He used an oil pressure switch. When the engine is running the oil pressure closes the switch and thus supplies current to the hour meter.

Alternator input to ammeter is always hot when battery is connected. You need switched source for hour meter.

On off ground switch is not for starting motor, it is to ground the mag to kill the engine.

Kirk has good idea with oil pressure switch.

I have a H & M farmall and a B John Deere with electric hour meters. B has mag, farmalls have distributors and all three meters run off of oil pressure switches. If for some reason the ignition switch is left on while engine is not running the meter doesn't run either.

Dave; Just bought oil pressure switch today at Napa. Man knew just what I needed and I was out of there in 5 min. Thanks all for your help . Buck
