BillOHIO and others - thanks for all your help locating a part for the bosses daughter-in-laws little tractor. I located a part in Canada with your help (and $85.00 Canadian). Thanks again everyone.

Ray, Glad I could be of some help.I really like the looks of those "little 86 series design" tractors. Shame they are so hard to get parts for.

For future reference did part you needed end up being the cooler or fan support, part #1014310C91 ?

Hope our paths cross sometime since we are both from Ohio. I am down here in Springfield,OH and retired from Farmers Equipment Inc., the Case/IH Dealer in Urbana, Elida, Lakeview, and London, Oh.

Yeah, the fan support. The tractor came with the "gentlemans farm" and has done it's share of work - more than I thought it was capable of. They also have a Ford 2000 and the lastest acquisition is a MF135 so the IH 284 is getting a little rest.
I'm in Wayne county, just North of Wooster.

Ray, Remember that 284 is an IH so it is capable of a lot of work ! (grin)

Even though I "bleed IH Red" it may surprise you to know I have a "soft spot" for Ford and Massey Ferguson also. I got side tracked in 1965 and sold M-F Farm Equipment and Parts for 7 years at Dealer in New Carlisle, OH. Then I let the local Ford Car and Truck Dealer talk me into being his Parts Mgr. I only did that for 31 years before finishing up at Case/IH Dealer for last 9 years.
I still help out a little "part time" and I visit a lot at Urbana store as my younger Brother, Jim works there in parts.

glad you got it handeled, i sure enjoyed my 284, wish now i hadnt sold it, but it had become a 'extra' and i had a friend who needed it , i used it with a 5 foot heavy brush hog, it didnt have any trouble powering it, but i didnt have any front end weights and on turns i could raise the brush hog and hit the inside brake and litteraly piviot on the inside wheel, and go right back down the next row, lots of fun, you had to time the brake release just right or the front end would just keep sliding around in the circle and you had to counter steer to get back to the very next row
it also made a nice post hole auger tractor

You were able to locate an exact replacement or something that can be engineered to work? Was it NOS stuff or a rebuild? Something intended for that engine in another application?

Just curious cause I have thought about a 284 but the parts issue has scared me even though I like a good challenge now and again.
