old popper

I bought an old H late last summer, and soon found out it wouldn't stay in 5th gear. After a long cold winter with no heated place to work on it, I finally got it cured. Had the whole top shaft out of the tranny and changed several items. Being a JD man myself, I wasn't familiar with any of it, or did I know what it was supposed to look like. Finally got it.
Changed shifter, 4th & 5th shifting fork, and made a new spacer between the bearings on the input shaft.
On to my next project now. ('91 Ranger pickup rear spring shackles and hangers rusted off)

No, once I got the front shaft where it didn't move back and forth everything worked good.

That's nice to know. Have a 51 MD I am restoring and the late owners grandson said it jump out of 5th gear.

Jumping out of 5th could be as simple as a bent shifting fork, or as complicated as Old Popper's.
