1086 torgue question

Looking at a 1086 and noticed when going down a slop with the torque in low range the tractor would free wheel. Is that normal? Thanks.

Either the you have low lock up pressure or the low side anti-coast clutch disks are warped and not holding.

Does the transmission lube light come on? Does the TA operate normally in the high side> DO the brakes work as they should? Those are all indicators of the TA pressures. You will need to put a set of test gauges on the MCV to know for sure.

The low side clutch disks can become warped from slippage and over heating if the TA is pulled back to use for slowing the tractor.

Lube light comes on when you push the clutch down,
the ta seems fine,i can hold the brakes and it pulls the engine down.Brakes work.

Time to check the MCV pressures. Most likely warped clutch plates.

The low side clutch has six small pistons rather than one large one so pressure is applied to just those six small ares of the steel disks rather than the whole disk. Not the best design and can lead to warped disks when someone tries to slow the tractor with the TA when pulling a loaded wagon or three.

I had that happen one time and it was the linkage, cable, not pulling the valve all the way up to drop it all the way into low TA. It would pull on the low side, but not hold back going down hill. Adjusted it and it worked fine. I think I had to shorten the adjustment on the cable so when you pull the TA lever down it would pull the valve up to where it should be.
