oil and filter for super h

I've got a 53 super H that is going to be my pulling tractor and cruising around tractor I took hyd, PTO , belt pulley, and oil bath filter system off. I'm getting ready to go on a 60 mile cruise this weekend what oil should i put in 30 weight or kept the 15-40 in that I put in last fall and might have 4-5 hrs on it. Also what is the best brand of oil filter to install in it
thanks

Keep the oil in it, it does not go bad with age, just hours. I would use a filter from IH, or Napa, when needed. Jim

Why take off the oil bath system those were one of the best systems ever made till people forgot to service them now they are too lazy to change the paper ones

Leave the oil bath on it.Whatever oil you run in the engine is fine. Get your filters at NAPA.That's all my tractors have seen in years....Never a problem and about half the cost of 'genuine' IH.

I agree , where I live Napa isn't close the parts house I use has wix filters and I think they are as good as Napa . Whatever maintenance you do is better than none , I also prefer oil bath breathers .

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that 'genuine' IH is really a WIX;Baldwin;Fleetgard.....

Run it with the 15-40, it will be good for anything you want to do with that tractor. In my opinion, 15-40 is a very good modern replacement for straight 30 in these old engines.

I also agree with Janicholson, oil does not go bad. Some people like to change oil once every 6-12 months regardless, even if it only has a few hours on it. That's a waste of good oil.

DeltaRed I have never been able to find who makes genuine IH drop ing. Wix make for other companies to that companies specs. Fleetgard is a division of Cummins Filtration and IH uses a lot of them on their engines.Baldwin makes filter for a lot of applications but I don't know if they build for any specific company.

Neither oil nor filter are particularly critical on these tractors. As I understand things the filtration system is a "bypass" type anyway, so only some of the oil gets filtered with every circulation.

You're not going to see any "advanced" technology in the oil filters anyway. Just the same plain old pleated paper they've been making for the past 75 years. One brand is just as good as any other. There are only two, maybe three, places actually making these filters anyway. Use whatever is convenient, or use CaseIH brand if it makes you feel safer.

Actually oil goes bad as water condenses in it. The longer and engine sits the more water there is in the oil. Oil and enough water turn to sludge when heat is added.
