All,

Was running an IH 55 chisel 15 shank 3pt hitch today on a JD 4430. The front row of sweeps were running fairly deep and on the gauge wheel. Gauge wheel is more near the front. I wanted the other two rows of sweeps to run similarly in depth, but they were shallower. So I attempted to level plow by using top link adjustment. It did put the back in further, but the front row then seemed to be higher and it was not running on the gauge wheel as before (gauge wheel was staying in air). Do not have a manual on setting up this plow, so I tried adjusting the lower link arms lower and it may have helped some, but I never did get all three rows of sweeps in deep and on gauge wheel as desired. QUESTION: Should I have adjusted the lower links further down and kept the plow essentially flat?

I don't like the way the thing is set up at all.

The center link is only used for lifting and when "working" the pin should be just floating in it's hole....that is to say, you should be able to take the center link off altogether and not affect the performance of the implement.

If this were my rig, I'd take those wheel assemblies off and move them clear to the rear so that they will set the rear gang depth. Then, the front depth of the rig can be controled by the draft control of the hitch.

Just my 2¢,

Allan

I"ll add to what Allan said and ask, did you have the draft control set heavy enough to allow the chisel to go into the ground?

All,

Was running with the rockshaft control lever all the way lowered (all the way forward). I checked the rockshaft selector lever today. It was set to the 3rd notch from bottom (zero). That looked almost to mid way.

QUESTION 1: Would that amount of load be lifting it out of ground (was running in quad setting B2)?

QUESTION 2: If the rockshaft selector level was set to bottom (zero), does that eliminate all sensing and present a risk to break something?

QUESTION 3: Did IH sell those chisels with guage wheels in the front location (where ours is at)?

Sure appreciate the good input here.

Have a good day!
