wheel bolts and nuts Farmall m

(quoted from post at 20:20:10 05/29/14) Where is the best place to get the rear bolts and nuts doing a fence row m and calcium ruined some

Your local salvage yard can fix ya right up

I dont use grade 8 because they shear instead of bending. Really tough, they might ruin something that could be used later.

I used regular ole hardware store grade 5 bolts in mine from Rural King (buying them by the pound makes em quite affordable).

That said, the downside to using regular ole common hardware store bolts is that they do not have enough threads on them so that you can incorporate that little thin keeper nut that is used on the standard factory Farmall bolt. That thin nut must be discarded when using regular ole bolts so that you have enough threads to tighten with where the outer nut and lockwasher goes.

Not having the little thin keeper nut does makes it a little harder to assemble everything, but still quite doable without that thin nut.

I imagine you could go to a bolt store and get special bolts that have more threads on the shanks, but you will pay a premium to go that route. (FWIW: I have purchased 2 used hubs for Farmall's from salvage yards and none of the bolts have ever been re-usable. 60 to 70 years old and likely a factory grade 2 bolt to start with has usually taken its toll so much so that I do not trust em)

ordered the bolts from local IH dealer a little over 7 bucks apiece for bolt and jam nut the kicker was the outer nut 13 dollars so I said I get them at Rual King
