1953 Super C - Only runs with full throttle (lever all up)

So, now that I have the tractor "running" I'm going to start tweaking it and getting it to run right and be reliable. Since I really don't have history on this tractor, there are certainly some things I have ??? on.

The prior owner has a C-clamp holding the throttle lever all the way up and if I move it down a notch or two, it stalls out. Carb?

I'm going to pull the carb and rebuild it this weekend and will take a closer look at seeing how good or bad the carb is.
What are the initial settings on the Zenith Carb?
2 1/2 turns out from full seat on the main jet?
1 1/2 turns out from full seat on idle needle?
Float = 1 3/8 or 1 5/8?
Was there another adj screw I saw some place?

Thanks!!

Just this weekend my son and I got our 53 or 54 Super C running(it's got Fast Hitch, so I think that makes it a 54). It sat there for 5 years while I used other tractors. It's got several issues, one of which was the carb - I took the carb off, disassembled as much as I could, cleaned it with Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner because that's what I had, and put it back together.

It's a Zenith. Local TSC store didn't have a rebuild kit for it. I checked the floats for pin holes, and a previous owner had stuck a bolt and washers in the bottom for a plug with some sort of sealant - I resealed with form-a-gasket.

My point is, I did basically nothing to rebuild this carb, just a good cleaning, and it ran. Purred, even. A couple few turns on the one adjustment screw on the outside- I don't even know what it does.

I can't imagine what your problem is if the throttle is "all the way up" to run. Is it choking out?

Interesting that we're both working on a Super C at the same time.

Make sure you have "good in a can that you can see" fuel flow from the carb end of the fuel line. Remove the oil cup on the air cleaner and make sure you don't have a mouse nest or something in it or the cup is plugged with dirt. Hold your hand over the end of the air intake when it is running to make sure it is getting air. Look at the easy stuff first. If it still does not run, post again. It is amazing what they can figure out on here.
