I have a 4 row 56 corn planter.just tried it for first time today and it goes a ways working fine then seems to.bind up the front drive chain and wont plant.I can find anything sticking unless.its the plates bind up once in a while. Anybody ever had this problem ? If so any advice would be great thanks

The only advice I can offer right now is to pay closer attention to what's happening, and come back with a better description of the problem.

"Binding on the front drive chain" really doesn't paint a very clear picture, which is probably why you haven't gotten any responses yet.

What is the "front drive chain?" I'm pretty familiar with 56 planters and I'm not sure which chain you consider the "front" because they're all pretty much in the middle of the planter. Do you mean the chain that runs from the wheel? Do you mean the fertilizer drive chain? Do you mean the seed drive chain?

What exactly is happening when it binds up? Parts should be flying, or pins should be shearing. The drivetrain on those 56 planters is not strong enough to slide the wheels, especially if you're loaded with fertilizer.

The plates certainly wouldn't be the problem. They're plastic. If they bound up, the planter would just shred them. Take the seed boxes off and run the planter dry for a ways to see if it still binds up.

Have you taken a wrench and turned the shafts by hand to see if you can make it bind up?

Check the bevel gears that drives the seed shafts that drives each row front and back if worn can bind up.

The chain I refer to is the chain in the center that runs the shafts to turn the plates.its nit sliding the wheels but appears to have a type of slip clutch on the shaft that is driven by the wheels.I have turned the dribe shafts with a wrench and haven't got it to bind up.after that it will work for a while then bind up again.I willtry to take a video later ttoday and post here

Are you using the fertilizer bins? How full and are they driving in the correct direction? This may add to the extra stress of the driveline.

there's no slip clutch on that planter. what you are referring to is on the end of the main shaft. It has springs and dogs on it to make it work kind of like a rachet. this allows one chain to turn faster than the other when you are turning around at the end of the field. clean this up real good, get all the old grease and dirt off. you may have some broken spings or missing pieces

Not using fert bins.bottoms are shot.the piece I refer to as slip clutch in in the center of the planter and when it binds it slides to the side.going to take pic and video of issue.

The wheel bearings on those planters were terribly undersized especially if it has been drug around a lot with the fertilizer boxes in use. I'm not sure if they will lock up the wheels when they go completely out. Been a while since I been around the one we used to use. I can't remember if you can raise the wheel with the hyd cyl. to check for play.

This is what I was xalling a slip clutch. When the chain to the right of it which is the chain that drives the seed boxes and thats the one that appears to.b binding up.when it does this piece slides to the right if ur in front of the machine. Not sure y it does
I.have a video but still trying. To.upload

Wheels not binding up.chains and drive shafts spinning fine.just chain drives in center seem to be jamming up.not sure.why.
