B275 leaks .

Hi folks

I have this B275 that runs well but there is a leak from the injector pump. the boo doesn't say what the function of this tube is other than it is attached to a "leak off port" well that is what it's doing but it seems to be that if leaking diesel is the proper function of this it should have some way to return he fuel to the tank? It's just a pigtail of steel line that ends right there and squirts on the ground. not all the time just sometimes when at idle.

heres a pic

You've got an early B275 with the in-line CAV
injection pump. They just about all leak like
that.
Not supposed to be diesel fuel there but that's
what happens with most of them. That pump is
acually four pumps in a box with a camshaft that
rides in oil. That oil reservoir is a separate
fill and it's up to you to drain it once in awhile
and put in fresh oil. It gets slight amounts of
diesel fuel leaking into it from the four injector
pumps above it and after awhile that reservoir
overfills. When it does - it spills out that
little overflow pipe. So all that means is the
reservoir is over-full. I suggest you drain it,
put in some fresh 30W motor oil and keep an eye on
it. I only change mine once a year. It dribbles
out that overflow all year. Been that way for 30
years now.
By the way - if it leaks REAL bad - you can
still buy the repair parts in England. Near $200
for four new injector plungers and delivery
valves. Even when new and perfect - they will
still leak a little.

That's great info I just did an oi change yesterday I'll add this to the spring cleaning.

Thanks

Sorry to have to ask but I don't see any place to drain and fill the injector pump. Book I have is great for taking it off an disassembling it but nothing on the oil reservoir other than the "self levelling oil system" pigtail removal...

I forgot that I modified mine 20 years ago. I took
off the old plunger-fuel pump that is bolted to
the side of the injection pump. I made a steel
plate with a drain valve and a filler hole with a
pipe plug. Note to the upper left is a unmachined
boss for a dipstick. Those pumps on some tractors
had dipsticks to check the oil level but wasn't
used on the B275s for some reason. To drain - when
you still have the original plunger-pump -you just
unbolt that pump. I assume seeing how hard CAV
made it to fill that pump box - they figure
letting it run with just diesel fuel as lube will
be OK. Can't overfill since you've got that excess
tube. On Ford tractors with Simms in-line pumps -
I've seen several run out of oil in that box and
seize. By the way. I took my plunger pump off
when I first got the tractor in an attempt to make
it start better. I added an electric pump that
made no difference. What really makes these
tractors start better - is to add the new 12 volt
Mercedes-type glow plugs. Makes a HUGE difference.
I've had two B-275s with the in-line pumps and
also two newer ones with the rotary CAV pumps. The
later models always have started better. The
different pumps seem to make a difference.

Ok that makes sense. that boss did make it look like an unfinished part.

Have you converted any of your tractors to an alternator ? will an alternator fit under the hood I use this tractor with the loader and the loader makes it impossible for anything to hang outside the hood area..
