886 oil pressure

I just purchased a 886 with 360 and the oil pressure seems a bit low, I didn't believe factory gauge so I plumbing a manual gauge. When engine cold it is around 50psi @ 1500rpm when warm @ 1500 rpm 25psi @ idle when warm 8-10psi. It has 15-40 oil in it what do you guys think? It runs perfect no smoke burns little oil.

That's a little low when hot. Hot should run at least 30 to 40 and at idle 15. I have had tractors run that low, ran for years and years no problem. I have learned that leaving out one gallon of oil and adding a gallon of Lucas engine oil additive does bring up your oil pressure. In my 1486 it raised it 5 psi hot. It runs abot 20.00 per gal but I think its worth every penny.

Find some Petron Plus. It is a black bottle less than a quart. Put some in there so that it oils better - won't bring up the pressure but it is good stuff. I have rebuilt engines and poured that stuff in while cranking before startup. You can actually hear it spin over faster when the stuff gets past the pump.

I wouldn't let it idle long or use it for something like an auger tractor where you won't be in the seat to keep and eye in it.

cousin had 886 for 30 years bought brand new, at about 8K hours it needed rod bearings, don't tear your motor up with low oil pressure
