farmall 400 drawbar

Is it possibile to have a swinging drawbar with a fasthitch on a 400? I have the fasthitch drawbar, but I would like to be able to mount my wire roller and need regular drawbar to mount it.

It is kind of rare but there was actually a swinging drawbar that was available with the fast hitch with the insert drawbar. I had one a few years ago on a 450 that I had refurbished. Just don't see one very often.

Yes. A swinging drawbar attachment was an IH option. It mounted and hinged from the very front center of the FH framing.

You could probably make one if you so desired. Take a regular swinging drawbar and cut it to size and redrill the holes. The part that went over top of the insert that held the drawbar up( the roller on a regular drawbar tractor) only went half way or so over the insert drawbar and was only fastened on one side. I hope you can understand this definition. Larry

I thought I saw a picture of one on here so where, but it wasn't a good angle. I would probably need to compare one without fast hitch to one with fast hitch to figure out the mounting.

If you have the 2 point hitch that has parts that mount on top of the transmission top? Swinging drawbar for that was a channel iron one with thick metal welded on the front and rear. Also had a thick piece of steel that hooked over the 2 point drawbar. Need to weld something up on that for a roller or make a complete one.
If you have a 2 point with traction control? Has a handle with notches on the left. Swinging drawbar for it was solid steel bar and also had a steel opening welded on top that hooked over the 2 point drawbar.
Don't know your location but I have one of those drawbars someone modified to use a roller. Would sell reasonable.

I picked up an original fast hitch swinging drawbar at an auction a couple of years ago. I can take some pictures and measurements of it for you if you want to try and make one.

First type FH used a swinging drawbar like in picture next to hitch assembly.

How do you keep from bending the drawbar if you accidently raise or lower the fast hitch? Does the drawbar swivel at front attachment or does the fast hitch have a locked position for drawbar use?

The front end of the drawbar is not fixed rigid to the tractor frame, but instead is fastened to the fasthitch frame so that the entire drawbar will move up and down with the fasthitch.

To far away, in WV. Forgot to say the swinging drawbar type I pictured also has a extra bracket that bolts to the 2 point frame for the front swinging drawbar anchor pin.

Now I know they are out there and you all have explained how they mount up, I can start looking for one. One more question: will the straight drawbar work with the drawbar mounted jet wire roller and drawbar mounted seeders(similar mounting on both) and is the fh drawbar longer than typical drawbar, so that pto shafts need to be longer?
Thanks for the help and explanations.

This hitch is what I had a problem with a while back. I also had to drill a hole in the left shaft out of the pivot ball joint. Otherwise it may slip off as the centerpoint under the engine is free to move forward and backward. I drilled a hole and put a pin in the shaft. Me and my dad replaced the pivot ball joint.
