Alright replaced points condenser and rotor. Rebuilt carb as we"ll.now I"m stumped tractor still sounds the same. My question is could the timing be off? Because it loses power backfires and runs rough when moving.

Possible distributor shaft bushing causing radical timing issues when running. A bad coil will also be suspect. Jim

I still think you have a fuel problem. Once you've confirmed timing, re-re-re check that fuel system. I have worked on and driven more Ms than I can count in the last 30 years, and have never had one backfire or pop or whatever from a timing issue that wasn't either wires on wrong, or timing gear(s) stripped, either behind the front cover or inside of the distributor. Im not knocking anybody else's advise, just saying I don't think its a timing issue.
