I bought a 1951 farmall A that did not have a PTO drive or belt pully. I bought them recently and installed them on the traactor with 3 shims. When I engage the PTO it makes a fairly loud whinning noise. I've got the proper gear oil in it so I'm pretty sure it's in the shimming. Anyone have any suggestions as to where I should first look? Don't want to take it off till I'm sure what I need to do. Thanks in advance. Jerry

And don't expect whisper quiet operation like an H or M. The little ones want you to hear every gear turning so you know they are working as hard as they can. Between the rear and the Woods mower on mine it sounds like a rock crusher on a lunch break.

Thanks all. I did add 2 more shims and that quieted it down quite a bit. I guess I'll just have to learn to like the sound. Now I need to find a pully and woods mower and I'm ready to go. It's taken a long time but I finally put in new rings and journals, and she runs great and no smoke! Love it.
