Stper A Engine Speed

T have a Super A with a 1540 engine speed, I am not sure it is reaching this speed but would like to increase it to 1870 like a Super C. Will I just need to change the governor spring or will I have to change the weights too?

Will it hurt my dwell/tachometer to attach it to the magneto grounding screw?

It just does not have enough speed to handle the model L594 Woods mower

Back the cap screw out thats on top of the gov housing to increase engine top speed IF everything else is in shape linkage ect.

Speed won't help unless you also change your gearing.

The faster the engine goes, the faster the tractor moves. The faster the tractor moves, the more power it takes to move it. So, any additional power you gain from running the engine faster will be soaked up by moving the tractor faster.

In short, you will end up right back where you started.

Exactly

But it does also kind of depends on what gear you typically mow in.

If you mow in 3rd, at 5mph - bump it to 1800rpm and you'd be going 6mph.

But if you shift down to 2nd, at 1800 you'd be going between 4 and 4.5 mph.

That's slower than normal in 3rd. But might not be horrible. That's a personal decision.

If you can live with that decrease in speed, that'd probably give you what you're looking for in better mower performance.

It'd be spinning 20% faster, and the travel rate would be decreased, lessening the load on it.

Just remember to throttle down in reverse!
