I bought a 1936? F12 with a Waukeshaw motor in it and has a hydraulic unit on it with old pattern rubber tires,One tire is shot.I know its cobbled up.Some time years ago it was painted traffic zone yellow, does anyone know if any state road shed would have used one of these to run a sycle bar mower with it.Im trying to figure what color to paint. The frame and rear should be red and the Waukesha should be gray,I think,so Im confused.I know its mine and I could paint it any color I just want opinions

Early f series I think were gray, I hate to say much as I get corrected ,but I like red so I would paint red jut me it belongs to you make yourself happy.

It could have either come from the factory gray (pre Nov 1st 1936) & repainted yellow prior to delivery by the dealer, or special ordered initially by the highway & painted yellow at the factory. These were usually group of more than just one tractor. It could have come from the factory gray & repainted red by the dealer as part of a promotional overhaul package, and later painted yellow by either a dealer or highway departments were known for repainting their own equipment as well.
All were very common practices back in the day.
Careful stripping of the paint layers should tell the story.

The Waukeshaw motor was replaced by the IHC motor in May of 35 (serial number FS 3035 and up). All the Waukeshaw tractors were completely grey with red wheels unless special ordered, which yours may have been. But the tractors were painted as fully assembled complete units except for the wheels which were dipped in red varnish, so the engine would have been painted the same color as the rest of the tractor.
