Farmall 706 Ipto shaft question

Hi there. I'm wondering if anyone has any solutions for a leaking ipto seal. The inside one seems to be riding on the sealing surface ok but the outer seal is riding right at the edge of the smooth surface. Is there another type of seal, maybe a double lip, I can use to make use of more of the shaft surface? Also, how tight should the shaft be inside the retainer cone? There seems to be a lot of movement when its all bolted together. Any info would be great.

Thanks.

It sounds like you have the bearing retainer washer on the wrong side of the snap ring on the bearing. When assembling the bearings onto to shaft the big retainer goes on the gear before the bearing. The bearing is located by the snap ring being held between the retainer washer and the front bearing cage. When the retaining washer is on the wrong side of the locating snap ring the IPTO gear can slide back against the TA carrier and the front seal will not be in the right location on the shaft.

Ok, that makes sense. I"ve had it apart before and just put in back the way it was but that doesn't mean it was right! When I look at the ipto shaft starting at the gear, I should have the gear, then bearing retainer washer(which I thought was a shim), then bearing, correct? Which way should the bearing be, the snap ring closer to the gear or bearing cage? Right now its closer to the gear and I wonder if the is enough room for the small snap ring on the shaft if the retainer washer is between the bearing and the gear? The bearing must move ahead on the shaft.
