MD spun bearing update

Well, I was dead wrong on the spun bearing. Took bearing cap off and bearing and crankshaft look excellent. NO damage. The shards of metal that wound up in the oil pan came from up above piston and/or sleeve. This thing must have had them for lunch. I don't have cylinder head off yet, but it had to have taken quite a hit. I could be very well looking for another cylinder head, but who knows where?? Thanks, JANicholson for your comments. Makes everything clearer now.

You are welcome. Sucked in components from carburation, or a dropped compression release valve will do that kind of damage. Make sure all the pieces to the intake valving system (gas to diesel) are accounted for. Jim

My 400D had major metal in the oil pan. It ended up being the wrist pin bushings that failed. Do not know why yet. I could use some help diagnosing.

I also had major metal in oil pan. I shined a flashlight from underneath but cannot see anything. When I get the head off, Ill post my findings.
