up.pulled off in fifth i think...second time i dropped clutch motor
broke loose threw water out muffler says its only been in weather
last 6 months...had battery ccables .no alternator..saw some kind
of rig under hood looked like voltage regulator.mounted to hood
,buy dist,..can get under scrap price..i think..do you think it might
still run ... if drained oil an replaced..did not see hydralics..would it have a belly pump......thanks for info yall.......talk to me what yall think....dewy

I think you did an unwise thing by pulling it and dumping clutch. I would not pay over $500 for the tractor.

It would either have a belly pump or be able to accept one. I hope you haven't broken anything in the engine or the transmission, it could be hard to tell till you try to start it. If you can get it for scrap price you can always part it out if it turns out to be too far gone to save economically. Serial number lookup is on the left side of the page. The generator or alternator would be up under the hood on the right hand side driven by a belt.

It all depends on how the rear wheels are set. If you're lucky and the tractor is set up for 30 inch rows (60 inches center to center) the width over the tires will be right at 74 inches assuming 13.6" tires. If they are set any wider it won't fit and you'll have to move them in. With a tractor that's been setting outside for a long time be prepared for a challenge getting the hubs broke loose from the axle.

Was the oil milky? If it sat and got rained in, there's typically going to be water in the bottom of the oil pan. The two won't be mixed. One thing to check: crack the drain plug on the motor and see if any comes out.

If the oil was milky then it was likely run with water in it and that's not good. I would pull the plugs and look to see how rusty and/or fouled up they are.

Sometimes you get lucky and a little rain water doesn't do any major damage. But if it got a lot of rain and then froze well then who knows! Six months does mean it sat out in the winter.

If it's a run of the mill H and you can't put a battery on it and start it, then it's worth about $450.

If you are looking to get several H's and fix up one then it could be useful for parts if you can get it for scrap or less.

If you just want one then keep looking! If you are new to the tractor thing then it's worth it to buy one that you can drive around and check out before you buy.

why un wise ,,, was trying to see if motor was stuck .what should i have done for for future reference....thanks yall.

If the pistons have water sitting on top and you force the engine over it will try to compress the water. You cannot compress water, might as well be full of sand, something will break. You'll have a two piece crankshaft or some rearend gears missing several teeth. You should have pulled the spark plugs and let the clutch out slow in 2nd.

I would have put it in 5th pulled the plugs and just try to rock it. If the fan moves it is probably good. Like Nate said If it was hydro locked or the sleeves full of rust, bent/broken rods, crank and stuff. You can also break a ring on an engine that might have been able to be saved.

There are thousands of good running H farmalls for less than 1000 dollars That one is junk and worth only scrap (250 dollars.

pass
with a H, there is always another one out there.

Brute force on even a lightly stuck assembled engine, is not good.
At a minimum, broken rings and severe cylinder scratches.
if lots of water is present, lots of broken parts and even bent rods.(BN I bought that the PO used brute force on had a badly bent rod. Looking at it in your hand, ya think 'that's impossible' But, there it is)

Very short term stuck, without disassembly.
plugs out, get the water out, soak with your favorite solvent for a few days, rock a back tire in gear once in awhile. At the first sign of fan movement,
switch to oil in the cylinders, soak another day, squirt some more oil in, and slowly turn it by hand with the plugs out.
Once it turns smoothly, keep spinning that rear tire until that oil pressure gauge moves. Put the plugs back in and start it...outside :D

Under scrap? Sure! Just picked up a very straight M with stuck motor great tin ok tires for $100 here

I wouldn't be afraid of it at scrap price. But I am mechanical and could either get it back on line without much exspense, or would know in very short order how much money it would take to put it back online. Would also have the option of going ahead and parting it out or scraping it if it didn't pan out. But thats just me, if you don't have the knowledge or ability, you might just want to not get involved in it.

I'll assume that you didn't break anything with the clutch drop.
Under scrap price? How far under? You can't really go wrong with $200 and you could learn a lot by simply talking to guys on here and taking things apart. A lot can be said about the tractor and owner who brought a tractor back from the dead.

Also, I've learned a lot (and have lots to learn) because I jumped on a tractor like the one you described and gave it life.
