Super MTA steering universal joint

I just got one for my MTA. The one from IH was a 1/16th of an inch too big all around, had to do a little bending and shaping (which I wasn't happy with) to get it in. Couldn't get the caps to press in flush which made for a real bear putting in the retaining clips. I'm surprised it worked out.

Anyone had this problem?

caps won"t go all the way in? sticking out 1/16" sounds like a needle bearing fell out and is under the cap

That's what the parts guy said, but the cross is actually a 1/16th longer than the old one on each side. The new caps are even much larger inside diameter than the old ones. The shaft side was relatively easy to bend out a little, the other side seems like cast and I was a little unsure about spreading it out.
