I bought a 1948 h the other day and a guy came by today and was looking at it and said i had longer axle shafts than normal and wanted to buy them. there is 24 inches sticking out past the seal. I measured all my other tractors and they only have 18 inches. was this a special order thing? I've never seen this before or never noticed it i guess because I've had a few h's in the past.

It is an option. The longer axles were used for cultivation and planting of crops that were wider than 40-42 inches. They are uncommon today because people cut them off to prevent barn door jamb damage and torn out kidneys when they are forgotten while driving in, or walking past. Jim
