Will a DT466 bolt into a 1256 where the 407 came out? Does it make a difference if the 466 comes out of a truck or tractor?

Not a simple drop in. Any thing is possible, if you have the time and money. The d466 would be easier to put into a 66 series tractor. The 407 is a good engine, it would be better to repair the 407.

It would be a chore, nothing is the same, front bolster, steering, front axle, radiator, sheet metal, air cleaner, side rails, all different design.

Those old 407s have a lot of 'heart'.I'd fix it,rather than spend a lot of money on a conversion.'Conversions' ususally always cost LOTS more money and time than expected...So if you're trying to "save money",you wont.If you want a challenge, something unique,Go for it!

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much. I guess I'm looking for a 407 or a short block at least. Mine has a rod out the side......big hole
