Can't pull out 454 PTO shaft -- suggestions?

I'm trying to get the 1000 RPM (lower) PTO shaft out on my 454. I have the cap/retainer off and the roll pin driven out from the PTO clutch (and the clutch is clearly free from the shaft) but the shaft assembly just doesn't move when I pull on it, even when I pull hard enough that the tractor starts to roll. The service manual suggests that the shaft will slip out easily once the roll pin is out. Any suggestions on how to free stuff up? Thanks.

Okay, I got it done. The trick is to use the PTO clutch as a sort of slide hammer and drive the shaft out the back with it. The bearing is a tight fit and I am thinking it might not be all that much fun reinstalling the shaft later on...
